This guide outlines five essential steps to craft your own Lil Yachty style instrumental.

Understand the Signature Sound of Lil Yachty Type Beat

Lil Yachty's music is known for its melodic trap beats that combine catchy, often whimsical melodies with modern trap percussion. His beats usually sit in the range of mid-tempos, around 150-160 BPM, making them energetic yet laid-back. The "Heights" beat by ozi, for instance, runs at 156 BPM and is set in the key of C# minor, creating a moody but upbeat vibe typical for Lil Yachty's tracks.

Use Melodic Elements with Playful and Airy Tones

A defining feature of Lil Yachty type beats is the use of light, airy synths and melodic patterns that evoke a youthful and vibrant feel. Incorporate bell-like sounds, plucks, and soft pads to achieve this atmosphere. The "Heights" beat demonstrates how layering such melodic elements can build a rich, textured soundscape that supports rap verses while maintaining a catchy hook.

Incorporate Trap Drums with Clean, Punchy Percussion

Trap drum patterns are central to Lil Yachty's beats. Use crisp hi-hats with varied rolls, snappy snares, and deep 808 kicks to create a rhythmic foundation. The drums should be punchy but not overpowering, allowing the melodic components to shine. Experiment with different hi-hat velocities and triplet patterns to add groove and bounce.

Structure Your Beat for Verses and Hooks

Arrange your beat to accommodate Lil Yachty’s style of rapping and singing. This typically means a clear division between verses and hooks, with dynamic changes such as adding or removing instruments to keep listeners engaged. The "Heights" type beat uses these structural techniques effectively, providing space for vocal performance and memorable choruses.
